If at first you don’t succeed...
My New Year’s Resolutions (like a lot of people), include the getting slimmer, through the eating less and exercising more method.
I am sad to say that even though it’s only the 7th January my New Year’s Resolution is already on rocky ground!
I could blame this on my neighbours for inviting me to their 3rd Annual Pie Night last weekend. Pie Night I believe, is a northern bakery tradition of eating an extremely delicious but not in the least conducive to dieting, butter pie. This is made of potatoes cooked in butter and topped with pastry. No vegetables were harmed in the making of the pie. And, as if the calorific value of the pie was not enough, it was mandatory to bring along a jug or two of one’s favourite cocktail. We took Dark and Stormy’s, a cocktail made of rum, ginger ale, angostura bitters, and limes which emanates from Bermuda.
Along with the more predictable Pina Colada’s and Mojito’s one couple brought along some Gin Jelly’s which certainly got the party started!
In the interests of good neighbourly relations it would have been rude not to go.
Perhaps what I should have done, before embarking on a set of New Year’s resolutions, was to put a plan together, to consider the aims and objectives, to set some targets, to work out the steps that need to be taken and the milestones to celebrate. Much like I do in the workplace. That way, when things go a little awry, getting back on target is not so hard.
Either that or not open the post!
