Katrina Jones, owner of Bloomers, test traded her flower shop from her Mum’s garage near Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. Katrina had learned her trade as a florist by undertaking a BTEC Certificate in Floristry and from working at a large supermarket chain and independent florist. Katrina desired to set up her own floristry business offering unique bouquets and flower arrangements tailor made to each customer’s specifications. The test trading led to demand and resulted in Katrina’s need to obtain larger and more suitable premises. She began to search in Lowestoft but found that the business rates in the area she liked were too high. Undeterred however she continued to look around and found premises within the popular Market Gates Shopping Centre in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.
In order to lease these premises, to hold a larger stock of flowers and associated products and to set up an online service she required some funding and approached her bank for help. They were however unable to help her as they perceived the risk of a new business to be too high, especially in the flower retail sector.
Katrina had been receiving business advice from Great Yarmouth Enterprise Support and they were able to direct her to Foundation East for the funding she needed. Business Loans Manager Valerie Jarrett was pleased to support Katrina in her application as she showed great determination to overcome hurdles, did not give up and was very focussed on what she wanted to achieve. Katrina is helped in the business by her mother and other supportive members of her family as well as from Valerie.
