When her bank manager failed to understand how lucrative her new business venture could be, Lynn Putland, dedicated to the concept of a luxurious cat hotel in Suffolk, went in search of someone who would appreciate how important it was to her.

With some of her own capital ready to invest, two years of market research under her belt and over 30 years experience of breeding and handling cats, Lynn was in a strong position and nothing would deter her from her goal.

So Lynn got in touch with Foundation East, and after delivering a presentation about her business strategy, was awarded a loan which would help to fund the building of her cat hotel. Determined to create five star cat accommodation and knowledgeable about the importance of cleanliness and practicality when working with animals, Lynn instructed to have the ‘penthouses’ created from a PVCu which is not only easy to clean but stylish and modern by design.

Set in the idyllic Suffolk countryside, the hotel is a tranquil haven where its feline guests can bask in suntraps, energetically leap around in spacious runs or snuggle up on washable fleecy bedding. With plenty of toys, scratching posts, loveable handlers and round-the-clock attention, the Andayln Cat Hotel has built a reputation for outstanding cat care. However, owner Lynn admits she wouldn’t be where she is today without the encouraging support she received:

“When you start a business it’s important to have both financial support and ongoing guidance from a friendly and trusted source. My contacts at Foundation East have always been really hands-on and helpful, coming out to see me every couple of weeks in the early days. Five years on and they’re still as important to me, contacting me every month for a chat and an update on business.

“If Foundation East hadn’t had faith in me and my idea I’d be missing out on working with the 500 clients I have on the books, as well as the 787 cats registered on the database. There’s been such a demand for the service, I’ve got customers travelling from places such as North Norfolk and even Sussex to ensure that their cats enjoy first class accommodation and are in a safe pair of hands while they go on holiday.

“My advice to other aspiring business owners? Go for it! I’ve managed to achieve my dream and am lucky enough to do a job I love, whilst enjoying the challenges that come with running my own business. I’ve been running the Andalyn Cat Hotel for five years and I wouldn’t be doing anything else. I treat all of my cats as my own and each and every client is truly valued”.

Not only is cat care of paramount importance to Lynn but she’s also dedicated to nurturing the development of others, helping to train apprentices from the local college who are studying for their NVQ’s in Animal Management. Her hard working nature and excellent reputation means that business is better than ever and as one of Foundation East’s first ever clients, she’s certainly one of the finest success stories!
