CLTs explained
Community Land Trusts enable people to make decisions that add value to their neighbourhoods.
CLTs are not for profit membership organisations that are based in and run by the community. They own and manage land and property for the long term benefit of local people.
A community land trust can improve the quality of life and the vitality of the community; can manage a neighbourhood in a sustainable way; and can support local enterprise.
By locking in the value of land on behalf of the community and future occupiers of the buildings, Community Land Trusts offer a permanent solution to identified local needs, for example, affordable housing and workspaces; community shops and meeting places; sustainable energy facilities; farms or recreational spaces.
Often a community may lack the professional or financial skills required to succesfully complete these projects and this is where Foundation East can help.
