Bob Shimmon

Job Title: Senior Business Lending Manager

How long with Foundation East: Since 2010

Responsibility: I lead the Business Lending Team at Foundation East. We review Loan Applications from across the East of England, offering guidance and signposting to support when required, before interacting with the Applicants to discuss their Business Plans. We aim to offer the best solution to meet their needs. Within my role I try to liaise with other providers within the finance sector such as Banks, Commercial Brokers, Invoice discount providers, Accountants and Business consultants to ensure that a comprehensive network of support is available

Experience: Before joining Foundation East I enjoyed a lengthy career within the Banking industry. I joined Lloyds Bank in the early 70’s and worked my way up from the general office to become a Senior Manager’s Assistant. This, effectively, started my real apprenticeship as a lender and for the next 3 years I was able to gain the benefit of my mentor’s skills and experience, along with numerous training courses, to become a competent commercial lender. I then enjoyed a number of commercial lending roles across East Anglia, eventually progressing to a Senior manager level myself, with a team of 10 Managers operating in Norfolk. I also enjoyed spells working within a specialist credit team who offered intensive care treatment to companies in difficulty, which taught me that there is usually a solution to most business issues, provided there is an appetite to find it.

I enjoy working for Foundation East because: I continue to have day to day contact with new and growing businesses but have the added pleasure of supporting the ongoing personal development of my team

My greatest achievement: Despite the pain, I continue to support Ipswich Town FC

After hours: I am an armchair sports fan, and enjoy cooking and socialising with family and friends.
