What is a business plan?

A business plan is a written statement of your business; what you want to achieve and how you propose to do that. It should explain the structure of your business, the product or service you will be selling, who you will get your supplies from and how much stock you will need to hold,  who your customers are and how you will sell to them, describe the market you will operate in and what part you will take in that market, the premises you will trade from,  what staff you will require and the financial information associated with all of that. It is your plan and should be a living document, revisited and changed as necessary.  It is not a document you write merely to "pitch" for money though it will be used by lenders, ourselves included, to consider the potential viability of your business and therefore whether to lend to you or not.
