Upon trying to return to work after starting a family, businesswoman Sara Horsfall struggled to find fulfilling work on a part time basis. This was a surprise to her, even in the city of Cambridge, where many medium and large sized organisations claim to have strong diversity ethics and policies. Sara, an experienced commercial product manager, knew she had the ability to create a solution for this dilemma.
She came up with the concept of Ginibee - an online job sharing network supporting candidates to create successful job sharing partnerships and providing them with both practical knowledge and real employment opportunities.
Sara gained a place in one of Cambridge Social Ventures' Incubator Programmes. Cambridge Social Ventures, part of Cambridge University's Judge Institute, is an incubation unit set up to provide training, mentoring support and introductions to social impact investors for promising social enterprises.
Due to a lack of trading history in a very competitive sector, Ginibee was not an attractive proposition for mainstream banks, so Sara applied for a working capital loan to support her through the initial trading period.
Her business plan was sound and the launch of Ginibee coincided with the announcement of new flexible working legislation, making the proposition even more powerful. As well as being the only online job search tool in the country focusing exclusively on job sharing and work life balance, it was clear to us that Sara had a viable business. Not to mention the fact that Sara was based in Cambridge, a city with a large number of companies and in which recruiters place 60,000 job seekers every year, which furthered our belief that this could be a very successful business.
In creating Ginibee, Sara has gained fulfilling part time employment that enables her to spend time with her children and put her experience and expertise to work. Her business has empowered other individuals to do the same and organisations now benefit from the appetite, energy and expertise of well matched Jobsharers.
