Mr Clever Clean
Mark Cave, founder of Cambridgeshire based “Mr Clever Clean” approached Foundation East in October 2012 seeking funds to launch his competitively priced hard surface cleaning and sealing services business in the county of Cambridgeshire and in North West Norfolk.
Having been forced to claim benefits following redundancy from his job in sales six months previously, Mark was resolute that self-employment was the long term solution to providing for his family’s needs, rather than relying on employment opportunities that may or may not materialise. His idea to provide the specialist cleaning service was borne from his experience in the agricultural sector where he had knowledge of specialist equipment, and how it could be utilised.
In order to start the business Mark needed funding to purchase a suitable vehicle and specialist industrial cleaning equipment as well as for advertising and marketing costs. He initially approached his bank for the funding he needed, but due to the business being a start-up and with no assets with which to secure a loan, his application was declined.
Mark found Foundation East’s website whilst searching for sources on funding on the Business Link website and submitted an application. Business Loans Manager, Bob Shimmon was impressed with the extensive level of market research that had been undertaken in the plan, and this coupled with Mark’s obvious energy and determination to build a business, enabled him to recommend him for an affordable loan which was offered along with coaching support to enable Mark’s vision to become a reality.
Since its launch, Mr Clever Clean has continued to flourish, performing ahead of expectations. Not only has Mark secured a niche in the cleaning market place, he is expanding to offer gutter cleaning and chimney sweeping services. Mr Clever Clean also featured on the BBC One Series ‘DIY SOS: The Big Build’.
